Disconnecting

Steps to take when finished to avoid accruing cloud costs when not in use

Important

Do not just close all windows when done and call it a day! You must manually power down the VM or else the Center will continue to accrue costs as long as it is running.

Step 1. Log out of VIAME and close that browser tab.

Step 2. Close the PuTTY connection window.

You’ll be asked if you are sure you want to close the session. Click OK.

Step 3. Shut down the VM

Back at the VIAME Cloud Dashboard in your web browser:

  1. Select any VMs that are running.

These will be indicated by a green check mark. (Follow Step 1 if you closed the browser and need to find the dashboard again. Be sure you are viewing the correct environment.)

  2. Click the blue STOP button.

Click STOP at the verification prompt. A black banner “Stopping <instance-name>…” will appear at the bottom of the page while the VM is shutting down and will change to “VM instance stopped” when finished.

Step 4. Verify the VM is shut down

Confirm that none of the VMs (“web” or “worker” in both dev and prod environments) are running. They should all have symbols next to them. (You may need to click REFRESH to refresh the dashboard.)

Step 5. Log out of GCP and close your browser.

That’s it!
